Born into a life of hot peppers, is it catching up to me?

My mom’s been making homemade habanero sauce since I was a kid and I still eat 2–3 fresh habaneros a day with rice or beans. We’re in Miami so we get good ones year round. I’ve never had issues but could daily use of hot peppers like this cause problems later on?

Over time super frequent capsaicin can irritate some people’s digestive lining or lead to heartburn issues. Everyone's tolerance is different, though. If you’re not seeing any problems, just keep an eye out for changes, your body will usually let you know if it’s had enough, trust me

Have you noticed if the issues you mentioned showed up gradually after years of daily use or more quickly once tolerance shifted?

At one point (like a decade+ ago), I could start perspiring just by researching peppers—mostly from looking at photos of hot peppers in books. Sort of like a Pavlov's dog situation.

The Pavlov story’s wild!

My plan is to just keep doing what I'm doing but pay closer attention to any changes over the next few months.

For those of you who've seen your tolerance shift after years of eating hot peppers, what was the first 'red flag' for you? Was it sudden heartburn or something more subtle that I should watch out for?

I never really had any adverse effects from consuming peppers, except for some fire upon exiting a day or so later. I consumed in moderation. I just found the Pavlov experience to have a significant mental impact.

So far, I haven't noticed any changes, so the plan is to just continue as normal and listen to my body. Thanks for all the advice!

This is super interesting! I’ve only been into hot peppers for a couple of years, but I’ve noticed I need more heat now to get the same kick. No big issues yet. but I’m curious, does tolerance usually fade slowly or can it drop off fast?
