What and how to dry peppers well

Up to now I've just been hanging some of them in bunches and occasionally some in the oven on low, but the results haven't really been great, sometimes they come out great, other times they're like half leathery and half crispy. So I thought to ask, what kind of equipment are you all using and do I really have a dehydrator or is my oven enough but the problem is just something I'm doing wrong?

I hung mine for years too and had the same hit-or-miss problem. Once I grabbed a $40 dehydrator off Amazon, it was night and day. Airflow is the secret sauce, not just heat. You can still use the oven if you toss a fan nearby to keep the air moving.

I live in a place where it is hot and dry. The next three days are expected to range from 93°F to 99°F, with sub-20 % humidity (likely 10%). The only thing I introduce is a large fan (think what is used for horses in stables). I can just lay the peppers out on trays or in tubs. I never shake the containers, even when they are several layers thick. This technique wouldn't work in areas with higher humidity or cooler temperatures.
